Cute and Fluffy

The first few days of chick parenting are met with the most surprises and challenges. But really the first week is also when the chicks are their absolute cutest. Fluffy little fuzz balls that are so light they float in your hand. Our three boys were very happy to be caretakers of these tiny puffs of cuteness. They constantly wanted to hold them and pet them. My oldest even requested that we practice violin in the chicken area so he could play the baby chicks lullabies. My three year old is over the moon with 'his' chickens and likes to pick out which chicks will be the Momma birds and the Papa birds, no matter how many times we tell him that they are all supposed to be hens. The youngest (at 18 months) loves to climb up a small step stool to watch the chicks with big excited eyes, often pointing and exclaiming with toddler delight 'burds!, burds!' I love seeing my boys interact with these helpless babes, watching them figure out how to be gentle and mindful even in the midst of such overwhelming enthusiasm. This is the good stuff.

This post is part of 31 Days- a writing challenge and seventh in my baby chick series!
